Carbide Lamps

Collecting underground? A Minex carbide cap lamp is the reliable light source to use. The bottom chamber is charged with calcium carbide, the top chamber with water and the reaction of the two produces acetylene which burns with a bright flame. One fill of carbide gives up to four hours light. Made from substantial brass sheet for a long working life. Standard bracket for attaching to a hard hat.

Rock Trimmers

Ultra-Violet Lamps Many minerals fluoresce brightly when viewed in a darkened room using a source of ultra violet light. Most fluoresce better under shortwave ultraviolet, although a few (including many English fluorites) are brighter under longwave. 

An inexpensive longwave lamp operated with 4 "AA" batteries. Designed to detect counterfeit banknotes (apparently forgers have great difficulty obtaining non-fluorescent paper so counterfeit notes fluoresce brightly under u/v whereas genuine notes do not.
